A Man Wrote It as a Plea. A Woman Rearranged It Into a Demand and Owned It Forever.

Otis Redding wrote it in 1965 and it did reasonably well. In his version a working man comes home tired and asks his wife for a little consideration in exchange for the money he hands over. It is a plea, and there is something slightly pitiful about it, which Redding knew and played for all it was worth.
