The 1954 movie was celebrated not only for its songs but for Michael Kidd’s famously athletic choreography, filmed with the scale and freedom of Hollywood. Recreating that excitement within a Broadway theater meant competing with vivid memories of barn-raising dances, mountain scenery, and a cast built for widescreen movement.
