They Had Not Played Live in Three Years. So They Walked Upstairs and Stopped London.

The Beatles stopped playing live in August 1966. For the two and a half years that followed they were a studio band, and by January 1969 they were barely a band at all.

They were filming themselves rehearsing for a television special nobody could agree on. George Harrison had already walked out once and had to be talked back. The tapes from those weeks capture long silences and short tempers.
