Two Homesick People Wrote It in a Freezing New York Winter and Sold Everyone Sunshine

In the winter of 1963, John and Michelle Phillips were living in New York, broke, cold and unhappy.

Michelle was from Los Angeles and had never experienced a real winter. She hated it. By her account she had spent the day walking around a freezing city, gone to a church to get out of the wind, and gone to bed thoroughly miserable.
